Arlene P. Jauken

September 8, 1930 — August 12, 2014

Arlene Pearl (Feldmann) Jauken was born September 8, 1930 in Humboldt, NE. She was the only daughter of Alfred and Cleo (Adams) Feldmann, and sister to three brothers: Eldon, Melvin, and Gary, Humboldt,NE.

Following her graduation from high school in 1948, Arlene attended Peru Teacher's College. She dedicated eight years of her life to teaching.

She met her soulmate, Jack, in 1950, and the pair were united on May 28, 1954 in a marriage that would span just over 60 years. She dedicated most of her life to being a wife and mother, but her love for learning remained with her.

In the early 1980's Arlene began researching an oral history shared with her by her great grandmother, Sophia (German) Feldmann. In 1997, she published The Moccasin Speaks, an historically accurate account of the German Family Massacre in 1874, during the Red River War.

Teacher, author, and adoring wife, Arlene felt her greatest accomplishment in life was being a mother of four: Joel, Olathe, KS; Nicolee (& husband Bill) Shandy, Worthville, KY; Jami (& husband Ted) Risch, Tucson, AZ; and Chad, Peru, NE; grandmother of six: Chris Mertes, Illesheim, Germany; Billi Salverson, Worthville, KY; Bambi Talley, Olathe, KS; Aimee Shandy, Erlanger, KY; Cori Beach, Turners Station, KY; Becky Jauken, Olathe, KS; and great grandmother of five: Erin Salverson; Raven Nave; Shawn Nave; Waylon Beach; and Zoe Talley.

Arlene was a devoted Christian, and member of the Peru Community Church. She passed from this life in the early hours of August 12, 2014, to join in heaven her beloved husband, Jack, who passed on July 20, 2014. She was also preceded in death by her mother, father, and two brothers, Eldon, and Melvin.
