Clarence Ehlers

March 13, 1916 — September 1, 2010

Clarence William Ehlers, son of Henry and Louise ( Hogrefe) Ehlers, was born March 13, 1916 on the family farm near Auburn, Nebraska. Clarence was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul (Hickory Grove) Lutheran Church, and attended Prospect School near his home.

Clarence served in the United States Army during World War II, and landed on the shores of France right after D-Day. He received a medical discharge after being wounded and receiving the Purple Heart.

On October 22, 1946 Clarence was united in marriage to Emma M. DeBuhr in Auburn. They made their home on Clarence?s family farm, and were blessed with two children, Carol and Lee.

As a lifelong farmer, Clarence loved his work. In addition to tilling the soil, he raised Black Poland China Hogs, and was a member of an association of others raising the species. After retiring from farming in 1983, Clarence became known as the ?egg man?. He enjoyed delivering eggs to friends and neighbors and getting a chance to visit with them all.

Clarence was a lifelong member of Hickory Grove Church, and also belonged to the Johnson American Legion Post. He was a devoted 4-H Leader, and enjoyed playing cards and watching baseball.

In January of 2008 Clarence became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn, where he enjoyed visits from friends and family, as well as visiting with other residents. It was there he passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at the age of 94 years, 6 months, and 19 days. Also passed are his parents, wife Emma in 2001, sister and brother-in-law Ida and Walter Roesener, brothers and sister-in-law Alvin Ehlers, Wilbert and Betty Ehlers, Henry Ehlers, Raymond Ehlers, and Fred Ehlers.

Clarence is survived by his children Carol and husband Leland Weber of Bruning, NE; Lee Ehlers of Auburn; grandchildren Holli Weber of Clay Center, NE; Stephen Weber of Hastings, NE; sister and brother-in-law Erma and Orville Gobber of Manhattan, KS; sisters-in-law Ilene Ehlers of Bozeman, MT; Elaine Ehlers of Waverly, IA; Matilda Schlange of Auburn; Erma DeBuhr of Auburn; Marge DeBuhr of Auburn; other relatives and many friends.
