Frank Able

Frank Adron Able was born September 23, 1921 to John W. and Olive L. (Tobler) Able in Peru, Nebraska. He lived in Peru through the 9th grade at which time he moved to Auburn, Nebraska.

Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1942 to 1945 during WWII. He served in the American and Asiatic Pacific Theaters. After his honorable discharge Frank returned to Auburn.

On June 23, 1946 Frank was united in marriage to Anita Humphrey in Auburn, Nebraska. They were blessed with two children, Shelly and Alan.

Frank worked for Great Lakes Pipeline Company before pursuing his dream of selling cars. His career began as a salesman for Pohlman Motor Co. in Auburn. In 1981 Frank and Anita moved to Boise, Idaho, where Frank worked in Auto Sales for Bob Rice Ford. He retired in 1986. Frank and his wife moved to Rochester, Minnesota in 1993. Anita died on January 18, 1995, and shortly after that Frank moved in with his daughter Shelly and her family.

Frank was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Hope Summit Christian Church.

Surrounded by his family, Frank passed away at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, where he had resided the last two weeks. He had reached the age of 89 years, 8 months, and 14 days. In addition to his wife and parents, Frank was preceded in death by his brothers Ernest, Virgil, and Wesley, and sisters Louise Able, Ruth Rawson, Charlotte Sayer, and Mildred Groff.

Frank is survived by his daughter Shelly Hansen (Robert) of Rochester, MN; son Alan Able (Cindy) of Auburn, NE; 5 Grandchildren Michelle Brodin (Brandon), Travis Wolf (Jennifer), Jesse Able (Seairla), Brooke Able, and Seth Hansen; 3 Great-Grandchildren Cole and Gabriel Brodin and Jude Able; 2 sisters Lucille Schaefer of Auburn, NE and Betty Tankersley of Toledo, OH.

Funeral services were Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Hemmingsen Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Frank Zimmerman. Special music was played, and pallbearers were LeRoy Able, Arnold Able, Jerry Sayer, Richard Groff, Tom Adcock, and Larry Humphrey. Honorary pallbearers were Glade Goings, Herb Lash, Rodney Groff, Robert Able, and Keith Rawson. Burial followed in Sheridan Cemetery near Auburn.
