Joan Joyce (Mertes) Hardy was born January 30, 1935 in Peru, Nebraska. One of five children of Ed and Lola (Hayes) Mertes, Joan attended Peru Prep and graduated from high school there.
On June 18, 1952 Joan was married to Fred Leroy Hardy in Kansas City, Missouri. They were blessed with four children: Ben, Dan, Pam, and Bob. Joan and Fred eventually settled in Peru with their family.
Joan served as a caregiver to others, and cared very much for her family. She loved spending time with family and friends.
Joan passed away Monday, January 28, 2013 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 77 years, 11 months, and 29 days. Her parents, husband Fred, and brother Ron Mertes preceded her in death.
Joan is survived by her children Ben and wife Pat Hardy of Murrieta, CA, Dan Hardy of Fremont, Pam Knapp of Peru, Bob Hardy of Lampe, MO; grandchildren Jamie, Eric, Jodie, Ben, Nicole, Ryan, Paul and Matt; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law Barbara and Tom Cruickshank of Nebraska City, Pat and Dean Jodry of St. Joseph, MO; brother Jerry Mertes of Auburn; other relatives and many friends.
According to her wishes, Joan?s body was cremated and no services are planned.
