John Kreienhop

John Lee Kreienhop, son of John A. and Leon (Remmers) Kreienhop, was born July 16, 1948 at Humboldt, Nebraska. He was baptized August 29, 1948 by Rev. Gustav Wienke and confirmed June 2, 1963 by Rev. Walter Lentz at St. John Lutheran (Stone) Church near Auburn, Nebraska. As his family moved around, John attended various schools in California and Kansas City, Missouri through the 6th grade. At that time he moved to Nebraska to live with his grandparents Dick and Mabel Remmers and attended Bratton Union School until its merger with Southeast Consolidated Schools in Stella, Nebraska where he graduated.

On September 18, 1971 John was united in marriage to Deborah Robison in Elk Creek, Nebraska. They made their home in rural Humboldt and were blessed with three children: Jessica, Shawn, and Cari Ann.

Beginning in 1971 John served his country in the Army Reserves, receiving his honorable discharge in 1977.

John was a longtime farmer in Nemaha County, and raised cattle along with his crop operation. During his lifetime he also did some construction and carpentry work, and was always willing to help friends and neighbors with projects.

A lifelong member of Stone Church, John was active in many community organizations as well. He belonged to the Humboldt American Legion Post #269 and served on the Legion E-Board. John was also on the Board of Rural Water District #2 and enjoyed singing with the Good Intentions group. He rode with the Patriot Guard and belonged to the Bear Creek Motorcycle Club and Elk Creek Men?s Club.

On Monday, June 10, 2013 John fell ill and was rushed to the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn, where he passed away that day. He had attained the age of 64 years, 10 months, and 25 days. His father John, step-father James Long, and grandparents Dick and Mabel preceded him in death.

John is survived by his wife Deb of rural Humboldt; children Jessica and husband Kurt Salmen of Lincoln; Shawn Kreienhop of rural Humboldt; Cari Ann Kreienhop and husband Christopher ?Howie? Howard of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren Leah Salmen and Madelynn Kreienhop; mother Lea Long of Newport Beach, CA; sisters Lisa Long and husband Larry Lerno of Seal Beach, CA; Sheri Hines of San Diego, CA; brother Craig Long and wife Ana of Santa Ana, CA; great-aunt Maxine Remmers of Auburn; many other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were Saturday, June 15, at St. John Lutheran (Stone) Church near Auburn, officiated by Rev. Catherine Burroughs with eulogy by Vernon Gerdes. Deanne Gerking was organist for congregational hymns and the vocal group ?Good Intentions? performed several numbers. Serving as pallbearers were John Howe, Tom Howe, Tim Volker, Jim Gerdes, Tim Brewer, and Marty Kelsay. John?s body was cremated after the service.
