Lawrence Hector

May 11, 1920 — October 16, 2010

Lawrence Karl Hector was born May 11, 1920 near Auburn, Nebraska. One of three sons of Fred L. and Minnie (Rohrs) Hector, he attended Hickory Grove District 27 school near his home. After his schooling Lawrence farmed until entering the service.

After the onset of World War II, Lawrence joined the United States Army and served in a tank squadron. When his squadron was captured, he spent time as a Prisoner of War in Germany. After his release from prison camp and subsequent honorable discharge from the Army as a recipient of the Purple Heart, Lawrence returned to the Auburn area.

On June 24, 1956 Lawrence was united in marriage to Alberta Behrends at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn. Blessed with one son, Tony, the couple made their home near Auburn.

After returning from the service, Lawrence worked for a year at Walter Harms Produce for Swift & Company. He then began a trenching business with Victor Lunzmann as a partner. In about a year Lawrence took the business over as Hector Trenching. He continued trenching, and in 1997 Tony joined him in the business. Lawrence gradually slowed down after that time, but didn?t fully retire until many years later.

Lawrence was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn, belonged to American Legion Post #23 and the Auburn Eagles, and had previously been a member of the Elks Club.

Even after Alberta?s passing in 2004 Lawrence continued to live at their home on the outskirts of Auburn until September of 2010 when he moved to the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn. It was there he passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the age of 90 years, 5 months, and 5 days. Besides his parents and wife Alberta, Lawrence was preceded in death by his two brothers Harold and Willis.

Lawrence is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Tony and Amy Hector of Auburn; granddaughter Darci and husband Tom Grafton of Auburn; great-grandchildren Reese and Quinn; other relatives and friends.
