Mildred Meyer

February 16, 1922 — November 26, 2009

Mildred Darlene (Davakos) Meyer, only child of James Leo and Lottie Bernice (McCourtney) Davakos, was born February 16, 1922 in Summerfield, Kansas. She was raised on a farm in Pawnee County, Nebraska, and attended rural school near her home.

On April 24, 1943 Mildred was united in marriage to Herbert Oscar Meyer in the Pawnee City Methodist Church by Rev. Wallace. The couple made their home on Herb?s family farm near Humboldt, Nebraska after their marriage, and was blessed with a daughter, Rogene Donnette. Mildred was first and foremost a mother, housewife, and homemaker.

Mildred graduated from Beauty Academy in Beatrice, Nebraska in 1960. She owned and operated a beauty salon out of her home, and then from a shop in Humboldt until her retirement in 1996.

After Herb?s passing in 1989, Mildred moved to Auburn, Nebraska, where she continued old friendships and made many new ones. A lifelong member of the Methodist Church, she transferred her membership from Humboldt to the Auburn First United Methodist Church at that time. She held various offices in the church in Humboldt, and also was a member of Rebekkah Lodge of Humboldt, the Humboldt American Legion Auxiliary, and the Auburn Eagles Club.

Mildred very much enjoyed activities that included being with family and friends, especially if it involved music and dancing. She also liked to read, needle work such as cross-stitching and quilt-making, and playing cards.

Mildred passed away at the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn on Thursday, November 26, 2009 at the age of 87 years, 9 months, and 10 days. She died and has left us to be home with the Lord, her parents, and husband Herb, and is looking forward to the day she sees all of her family members and friends with her.

Those left to remember her life on Earth include her daughter Rogene and husband Don Saal of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren Ronald and wife Carolyn Saal; Preston Saal; Donnette Dittmer; 4 great-grandchildren; special friend Harry Swenson of Falls City; other relatives and many dear friends.

Funeral services were Monday, November 30, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Auburn, officiated by Dr. Fred Richart.
