After her husband passed in 1987, Ruth continued to live at their home in Papillion until 2009. She lived at an assisted living center for about a year, and in October of 2010 became a resident of the Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth.

Suffering from an illness, Ruth entered the Bellevue Medical Center in Bellevue, Nebraska on July 29, 2014. She passed away there on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at the age of 93 years, 6 months, and 8 days.
