Stanley Vanderford

October 10, 1939 — April 17, 2010

Stanley Allen Vanderford, one of seven children of Roy and Nellie (Kalberg) Vanderford, was born October 10, 1939 at Auburn, Nebraska. He attended Pleasant Ridge School District #18 and graduated from Auburn High School.

Stanley lived and farmed between Auburn and Peru all his life. He also took great pride and joy in being the caretaker of the London Cemetery for many years until his stroke in 2007.

As an infant, Stanley was baptized in the United Methodist Church in Auburn. Later in life he became a member of the Peru Masonic Lodge #14 in Peru, Nebraska. Stanley was always an active volunteer in his neighborhood and in the Peru and Auburn communities. When there was work to be done helping a neighbor, Stanley would drop his own work and help the neighbor. When an organization needed some muscle and work, Stanley would be there.

Becoming a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn in October of 2007, Stanley always enjoyed visits from his family and friends. He passed away at Good Sam on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the age of 70 years, 6 months, and 7 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Vanderford of Lincoln, two nephews, and a very dear companion Alberta Sokol.

Stanley is survived by four sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Dale Aue of Sabetha, KS; Beverly and Mervyn Schliefert of Kearney, NE; Bonnie and John Robbins of Lincoln, NE; Barbara and Monroe McCoy of Forest City, IA; and by a brother and sister-in-law John and Marsha Vanderford of Smithville, MO; and by aunts Mildred Vanderford of Auburn; Leone Frenzen of Benkleman, NE; Mary Alyce Mullens of Beatrice; Christine Komarek of Stockton, CA; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews and their spouses.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 20, 10:30 a.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Burial will follow in London Cemetery near Auburn. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Memorials suggested to Peru Masonic Lodge #14 or the Auburn Rescue Squad.
