Ann Sanders

Ann Marylan Collier (Highfill) Sanders passed away at her home in Auburn, Nebraska on Saturday, March 24, 2007. She had attained the age of 71 years, 6 months, and 18 days. Ann was born September 6, 1935 in Paragould, Arkansas to Rev. Nelson Glen Collier and Irene (Hensley) Collier. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ann received her early education in Arkansas and southern Illinois, and graduated from Tempe High School in Tempe, Arizona.

In August of 1959, Ann married Robert Sanders in Prescott, Arizona, and they later moved with their family to Auburn, Nebraska. Ann was a member of the Auburn Christian Church. She was always active in her church, teaching children and adults and Bible Studies for elderly women.

Other than caring for her family, Ann had worked for Safeway Stores, as an office manager for the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn, and as a bookkeeper for Byford and Pat Elwonger in Auburn.

Left to celebrate her life are her husband Robert of Auburn; daughter Cynthia Edwards and husband Dennis of Cheney, WA; son John David Sanders and wife Peggy of Adair, IA; grandson Nathan Sanders and wife Dana, great-grandson Jace of Papillion, NE; grandson Jeffery Sanders and wife Bridgette of Lusby, MD; step-grandson Mark Stevenson and wife Missy of Nemaha, NE; step-grandson Chris Stevenson, step-great-grandson Brett of Nemaha, NE; brother Nelson Collier of Fort Stockton, TX; sisters Joyce Speegle and husband William of Fort Stockton, TX; Linda Duncan and husband Charles of Fort Stockton, TX; Virginia Randall and husband Wm. (Randy) of Hampton, VA; Sharon Dukes and husband Douglas of Athens, AL; Janiene Holtzman and husband Jay of Levelland, TX; sisters-in-law Jean Scott and friend Art Mallard of Wilderville, OR; Milly Thies and husband John of Fort Dodge, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 29, 2007 at Hemmingsen Funeral Home Chapel in Auburn, officiated by Rev. Frank Zimmerman and Rev. Bob Cook. Carlene Andrew was organist, Richard Shelton soloist, and special pre-recorded music was played. Pallbearers were Dan Hodges, Don Hoffmeyer, Rock Herr, Van Leech, Paul Phillips, and Wayne Chase. Gideons and Auxiliary served as honorary pallbearers. Burial followed in Sheridan Memorial Cemetery west of Auburn.
