Ardith Keane

Ardith Jeanne (Evans) Keane, the daughter of John W. and Emma (Hake) Evans, was born September 24, 1919 in Olympia, Washington. She grew up on a farm near Marsland, Nebraska and attended country school at District 61. Ardith was in the first and largest graduating class of Marsland High School.

On January 27, 1937 Ardith was married to Oscar Keane. The couple resided in Marsland and was blessed with two children, Larry and Sheryl.

Ardith worked for the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad when mail was delivered and picked up by the train. She helped sort and transported outgoing mail to the train and brought back incoming mail to the post office. She also acted as Assistant Postmistress, served on the school board, town board, and election board throughout the years. Ardith?s greatest joy was her grandchildren, and spending time with them. She also loved cooking for over 25 years for the hot lunch program at Marsland School District 92, and spending time with all the school children. One child, Goldie Townsend Knoderer, ?adopted? Ardith as her aunt. She enjoyed reading, Bible study, cooking, baking, gardening, and canning the fruits of her labor. She loved it when friends and family came to visit, there was always room for guests at the table. If it wasn?t mealtime, a beverage and snack of homemade cookies, cinnamon rolls, cake, or some other goodies were always welcomely waiting.

Ardith moved to Auburn, Nebraska in 1996 to be close to family. She entered the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn Special Care Unit in 2006. It was there she passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2011, at which time a special bedside memorial service was held for family and staff. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and mother- and father-in-law Emma and Winfield U. Keane; brothers-in-law Edward, john, Harold, and Winfield; sisters-in-law Agnes, Alice, Wilma, Elsie, and Emma; and special friends.

Ardith is survived by her children Larry Keane and wife Gale of Kennewick, WA; Sheryl Hitch and husband Harold of Auburn, NE; grandchildren Cindy and husband Steve Rychard of Fox Island, WA; Candy and husband Jon Larscheid of Auburn, WA; Carla and husband Jim Facinelli of Shawnee, KS; Brad and wife Stephanie Kissler of Grand Island, NE; Ron and wife Karen Kissler of Sidney, NE; great-grandchildren Crystal, Lacey, and Ryan Rychard; Courtney and Lewis Larscheid; Tony, Jake, and Luke Facinelli; step-great-granddaughter Kennedy Martinez; step-grandchildren Brad, Darryl, and Tim Hitch; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service for Ardith Keane will be held at the United Methodist Church in Hemingford at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 17, 20011, with Pastor Jeri Soens officiating. A luncheon for friends and family will follow at the church. Private family inurnment will follow at the Hemingford Cemetery at Hemingford. Memorials are suggested to the Hemingford Volunteer Firefighters Association or Crawford Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
