Dale A. Dettman

July 29, 1928 — July 15, 2017

Dale Allen Dettman, one of 11 children of Clifford Oscar and Nora Faye (White) Dettman, was born July 29, 1928 in Verdon, Nebraska. He attended rural school through the 8th grade, and graduated from Bratton Union High School.

Dale served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952. After his discharge from the Army he returned to the area to farm.

On August 9, 1959, Dale was united in marriage to Naomi Y. “Jinx” Gentry at the Stella Community Church in Stella, Nebraska. They made their home on a farm near Stella, and were blessed with two sons, Jeff and Greg. In 1974 the couple moved to Auburn, Nebraska.

Dale enjoyed farming, and continued farming upon his return from the service until 1970. After other employment, he began working at the John Deere Distributorship at Auburn in 1976. He was there for 17 years until his retirement in 1993.

Dale loved the outdoors, and spent spare time fishing, hunting, or camping with the family.

When his health dictated it, Dale became a resident of Good Samaritan Society-Auburn in December of 2013. While there, Dale enjoyed visiting with other residents and visitors, playing Bingo, the men’s coffee group every Thursday, the special music, and other activities. He passed away at Good Sam on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and 16 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, and 1 brother.

Dale is survived by his wife Naomi “Jinx” of Auburn; sons and daughter-in-law Jeff and Laura of Monroe, NC and Greg of Shubert; grandchildren Nicholas of Monroe, NC and Kelsey of Hickory, NC; sisters and brothers-in-law Doris Jean and Wayne Shafer of Stella; Norma Schutte of Lincoln; Mildred Buethe of Plattsmouth; Marlys and Scott DeVries of Lake City, IA; brothers and sister-in-law Wayne Dettman of Bern, KS; Weldon and Sharon Dettman of Humboldt; other relatives and friends.
