Dolores Bowen

February 27, 1948 — June 25, 2016

Dolores Ann (Johnson) Bowen, one of two children of Richard and Harriett (Ruse) Johnson, was born February 27, 1948 in Hamburg, Iowa. She attended school in Nehawka, Nebraska, and graduated from Nehawka High School.

On January 1, 1971, Dolores was married to Harold Barnett at Coryell Park near Brock, Nebraska. They were blessed with three children: Michelle, Marie, and Jennifer. The couple divorced in 1980. Dolores married Glen Bowen on June 27, 1981 at the United Methodist Church in Brock.

Dolores worked as a nurses’ aide as a young woman. Later in life she worked as a manager at El Senor’s in Auburn, at the Apple Inn in Nebraska City, and drove a bus for Johnson-Brock Schools. Through all her jobs, however, her priority was as a homemaker and raising her children.

Dolores was a member of the Brock United Methodist Church, and helped with church activities. She belonged to ABATE, where she was known as the “gate-keeper” for their beer garden fund raisers. She was also designated chase vehicle operator on motorcycle rides. Once again, though, family was always most important to Dolores. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

On Saturday, June 25, 2016, Dolores passed away unexpectedly at her home in Brock. She had reached the age of 68 years, 3 months, and 29 days. Her parents, both husbands, and nephew Derek Johnson preceded her in death.

Dolores is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Michelle and Jesse Snyder of Brock; Marie Barnett and Grant Welch of Julian; Jennifer and Steve Bohlen of Bennington; grandchildren Ashton Snyder, David Snyder and girlfriend Martha Hart, Devon Barnett, Alex Jacobs, Alyshia and husband Ryan Worthey, Hayden Bohlen, and Cayley Bohlen; great-grandson Atticus Worthey; brother and sister-in-law Charlie and Diane Johnson of Vining, MN; her dog Princess; many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be Saturday, July 2, 1:00 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Brock. Cremation of the body will follow the service. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and with the family at the church Saturday 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
