Dorothy Fike

February 10, 1932 — October 13, 2012

Dorothy Matelle Dunn Fike, one of three children of Frank T. and Mary Leota (Lewis) Dunn, was born February 10, 1932 at Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She graduated from Leon High School in Tallahassee, Florida.

On December 9, 1949 Dot was united in marriage to Bobbie Fike in Gulfport, Mississippi. After 21 years as a Navy wife, changing home ports many times, they would make their home in Peru, Nebraska. They were blessed with two children, Kenneth and Deirdre.

Dot was always first a homemaker, raising her children and taking care of the daily household chores. She served as a secretary to the head librarian for 15 years at Peru State College.

Dorothy was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Auburn, and belonged to the P.E.O. Chapter AU in Peru, as well as the Tuesday Literary Club and the DAR. She was a vociferous reader, and after her eyesight failed she continued to enjoy books on tape. Dot loved to quilt, cook, and sew, but most of all she enjoyed being with her family: husband, kids, grandkids, and her Yorkshire Terriers.

When her health dictated, Dot became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn. She passed away there on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the age of 80 years, 8 months, and 3 days. Her parents, sister Eleanor Hightower, and brother Jerry Dunn preceded her in death.

Dot is survived by her husband Bob of Auburn; son and daughter-in-law Kenneth and Barbara Fike of Peru; daughter and son-in-law Deirdre Fike and Thomas Miller of Washington, DC; grandchildren Mattie and husband Brian Keiser, Acacia Fike, Amber Whisler, Audra Whisler, Jennifer Whisler, Schaulis Fike, Josey Whisler, Jai-leah Kamenicky, Brock Miller, and Anjanette Greenlaw; 9 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 16, 10:30 a.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery at Peru. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 6:00 to 8:00.

Memorials are suggested to The Children?s Home Society, 1605 Eustis St, St. Paul, MN 55108.
