Edith Bohling

November 7, 1921 — May 8, 2007

Edith Margarethe (Gebers) Bohling was born November 7, 1921 on the family farm near Auburn, Nebraska. She was one of five daughters of Carl and Erna (Levin) Gebers. Edith was baptized November 27, 1921, and confirmed April 5, 1936 at St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Church. Edith attended Prospect School near her home, and graduated from Auburn High School in 1939.

On June 18, 1942 Edith was united in marriage to Orvall I. Bohling at Hickory Grove Church. The couple would be blessed with nine children: Sharron, Stephen, Leslie Ann, Dennis, Dale, Joel, Elaine, Tim, and Annette. They made their home in rural Auburn to farm and raise their family.

With nine children, Edith had her hands full running the household, and always made sure the kids were well taken care of and ready for any events, especially church on Sunday mornings. She loved to cook for her family, and also made many quilts for her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. In later years she always kept in touch with her family through her many letters to them.

Edith was a lifelong and active member of St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Church. She had been a 4-H Leader for many years, and baked many wedding cakes for brides and grooms in the area. Along with her other interests, Edith enjoyed gardening and canning her produce, and making quilts and afghans.

Edith entered the Nemaha County Good Samaritan Center in Auburn in April of 2007. It was there she passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at the age of 85 years, 6 months, and 1 day. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Dennis, granddaughter Edith Ann, and sister Marie Oestmann.

Edith is survived by her husband Orvall of Auburn; children Sharron Randolph of Auburn; Stephen and wife Nancy Bohling of Blue Earth, MN; Leslie Ann Auerbach of Auburn; Dale and wife Kathryn Bohling of Auburn; Joel and wife Vickie Bohling of Portland, OR; Elaine and husband Lannie Redfern of Colorado Springs, CO; Tim and wife Kris Bohling of Carroll, IA; Annette and husband Jeff VonBergen of Auburn; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Pearle Gerdes of Auburn; Ruth and husband Harlan Bohling of Auburn; Rosalie and husband Bob DeYoung of Greeley, CO; many other relatives and friends.
