Harvey H. Bergmann

August 19, 1930 — September 24, 2020

Harvey Henry Bergmann, son of Henry C. and Anna (Rippe) Bergmann, was born southwest of Auburn, Nebraska on August 19, 1930. He was the youngest of six children and was baptized September 7, 1930 by Reverend Theodore Streng and confirmed March 25, 1945 by Reverend B. C. Wiebke, both at St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Church.

Harvey attended District #72 (Frerichs) rural school and graduated from Auburn High School in 1948. He enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1954. After completing the Advanced Accounting course at Lincoln School Commerce, he worked as an accountant for H. A. Marr Wholesale Grocery in Omaha.

On June 23rd, 1957, Harvey was united in marriage to Della Gerdes at St Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn. After their marriage, Harvey and Della lived in Omaha for a short time before moving to Beatrice when Harvey was employed as office manager for Trindel Oil Company. Harvey became an active member of the Beatrice Jaycees and St. John Lutheran Church. During their time in Beatrice, Harvey and Della were blessed with two daughters, Vicki Lynn and Cynthia Jo.

When Harvey accepted a position with Auburn State Bank in 1964, the family moved to Auburn. Harvey retired from active banking in 1995 but continued to serve on the Board of Directors until 2013.

In Auburn, Harvey was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran church, serving on the Church Council several times as well as Sunday School Superintendent and various other committees. He also served his community in several capacities including as Treasurer for the City of Auburn and the Board of Public Works for 38 years, as a member of the Advisory Board of the Nemaha County Good Samaritan Center, founding Board member and Treasurer of the Auburn Senior Center, and Board member and Secretary of Auburn Homes, Inc. He was a member of the Auburn American Legion Post #23, American Legion 40 & 8, and the Nemaha Valley Museum, as well as a Charter member of the Auburn Eagles #3767. In recognition of his dedicated service to the community, Harvey was named the Outstanding Jaycee in 1965 and the Auburn Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year in 1975.

Most of all, Harvey was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed camping and traveling with his family and especially spending time with his grandchildren. We will all miss both his sage advice and his always present sense of humor.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; wife Della; brothers Edwin Bergmann and wife Ella, and Martin Bergmann and wife LaVerda; and sisters Helen Bohling and husband Elmer, Arlene Schuette and husband Marvin, and Elnora Lunzmann and husband Victor.

Those left to mourn his passing are daughters, Vicki and husband Daniel Porter of Albuquerque, NM, and Cynthia Loew of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren, Megan and husband Eric Stoecker, Kaitlin and husband Ace Jackson, Garrett Loew and wife Mallory, Alexandra Porter, and Justin Porter; four great-grandchildren, Graham Harvey Stoecker, Samantha Marie Stoecker, Jude Christopher Loew, and Della Christine Jackson, and many other relatives and friends.
