Helen Irene (Lotter) Lyden was born March 2, 1930 in the family home in Shubert, Nebraska. She was one of five children of Frank and Cora (Bauers) Lotter, and attended school in Auburn, Nebraska. Early in life Helen was united in marriage to William Simmons. Helen and Bill made their home in Brock, Nebraska, and were blessed with three children: Linda, Todd, and Kevin. Some time after Bill passed away, Helen married Warren Lyden, and they lived in Rock Port, Missouri during their time together. During her lifetime, Helen worked at Wood Carv Cabinet Manufacturing in Auburn, at the Good Samaritan Center in Auburn, and also cleaned houses. She loved travelling, and went on many trips with her daughter Linda. She was a huge Elvis fan, and her dog Max was a constant companion and big part of her life. Because of failing health, Helen became a resident of Homestead Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. It was there she passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the age of 82 years, 11 months, and 7 days. In addition to her parents and husbands Bill and Warren, she was preceded in death by a sister Wauneta ?Tootie? McCoy. Helen was survived by her daughter Linda Barrett of Lincoln; sons Todd Simmons and Kevin Simmons of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren Michele Oldfield of Nebraska City; Tracy Thomas and husband Eddie of Doniphan, NE; Shawn Lockwood and wife Rosey of Lincoln; Josh Simmons; Ashley of Brock; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister Phyllis Holland of Nebraska City; brothers Larry Lotter and Wayne Lotter of Tennessee; her dog Max; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn, officiated by Rev. Corey Miller. Special pre-recorded music was played. Pallbearers were Blake Oldfield, Casey Clark, James Lockwood, Eddie Thomas, Ralph Andrew, and Rick Holland. Adrienne Thomas was honorary bearer. Burial followed in Holy Cross Cemetery near Auburn.
