Herman Sohnholz

Herman August Sohnholz, one of four sons of Walter and Adina (Bohling) Sohnholz, was born August 18, 1934 on the family farm near Auburn, Nebraska. He was baptized September 16, 1934, and confirmed May 15, 1949, at St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Church. Herman attended Hickory Grove School, and graduated from Auburn High School. He then attended the University of Nebraska Ag College in Lincoln.
Herman entered the U. S. Army in March of 1957, served at Fort Hood, Texas, and received his honorable discharge on March 19, 1959. At that time he returned to farm near Bratton Union and Humboldt, Nebraska.
On July 6, 1958 Herman was united in marriage to Beverly Hinds in the Evangelical United Brethren Church at Howe, Nebraska. This union was blessed with two children, Dwaine and Diane.
Farming and raising livestock were always a big part of Herman?s life. As a young man he received the FFA Star Farmer and State Farmer awards. Following his farming venture after the service, Herman moved his family to the Sohnholz family farm near Auburn. He continued to farm his entire life.
Although Herman?s family was the most important part of Herman?s life, he was very involved in his church and community. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Church and Tecumseh Lutheran Church and held many church offices and positions. Herman was involved in many civic organizations, including the Nemaha County Good Samaritan Center Advisory Board and the FSA Board, on which he was currently serving.
Herman?s health had failed in recent months, and on January 28, 2008 he entered the Nemaha County Good Samaritan Center in Auburn. He passed away there on Monday, February 4, 2008 at the age of 73 years, 5 months, and 17 days. His parents, an infant brother, and brother Rudolph preceded him in death.
Those left to treasure his memories include his wife Beverly of Auburn; son and daughter-in-law Dwaine and Diane Sohnholz of Omaha; daughter and son-in-law Diane and Jeff Jones of Omaha; grandchildren Caleb, Elizabeth, Kaylee, Denae, and Shayla Jones; brother and sister-in-law Roland and Cookie Sohnholz of Pine, CO; sister-in-law Della Sohnholz of Johnson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 8, 2:00 p.m. at the Hemmingsen Funeral Home Chapel in Auburn. Burial will follow in the St. Paul (Hickory Grove) Cemetery west of Auburn. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 6:00 to 8:00.
Memorials in lieu of flowers suggested to family choice.
