Jack J. Jauken

September 15, 1930 - July 20, 2014

Jack Julian Jauken was born September 15, 1930 in Bern, KS. He was the youngest son of Herman and Julia (Ramsey) Jauken, and younger brother to Ilola Miller, Woodlawn, KS, and Hirum Jauken, Topeka, KS. In 1950 the stars aligned and Jack met Arlene (Feldmann), the love of his life who would become his wife for the next 60 years, at a dance in Dubois, NE. Jack joined the Kansas National Guard, and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952, serving his country at Ft. Sill, OK during the Korean Conflict. On May 28, 1954 Jack and Arlene were united in marriage at Bethany Evangelical United Brethren Church southwest of Dawson, NE. Following his military service Jack joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, spending much of his career as electrical overseer during the construction of Snowbird Ski Resort, southeast of Salt Lake City, UT. He would spend the remainder of his career traveling the country as an electrician. He retired in 1993, and made his home in Peru, NE. Over the years Jack was blessed with and loved by four children: Joel, Olathe, KS; Nicolee (& husband Bill) Shandy, Worthville, KY; Jami (& husband Ted) Risch, Tucson, AZ; and Chad, Peru, NE; six grandchildren: Chris Mertes, Illesheim, Germany; Billi Salverson, Worthville, KY; Bambi Talley, Olathe, KS; Aimee Shandy, Erlanger, KY; Cori Beach, Turners Station, KY; Becky Jauken, Olathe, KS; five great-grandchildren: Erin Salverson; Raven Nave; Shawn Nave; Waylon Beach; and Zoe Talley; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Jack was a member of the Peru Community Church. He passed at 12:50am on Sunday, July 20, 2014, and was preceded in death by his mother and father. Memorials suggested to American Legion Post #326 in Bern, Kansas or the Peru Community Church.
