Laverne Norvell

December 13, 1921 — September 6, 2012

LaVerne LeRoy Norvell, one of three children of Roy B. and Augusta (Bohling) Norvell, was born December 13, 1921 on a farm near Auburn, Nebraska. LaVerne grew up southeast of Auburn, and attended Fairview School through the 8th grade. He then attended and graduated from Auburn High School.

On August 22, 1940 he eloped with Helen Davis and they were married in Iowa. LaVerne and Helen made their home in Nemaha County, and were blessed with a daughter, Sharon.

LaVerne farmed his entire adult life, and took pride in his livestock, including hogs and cattle. He also worked as a bus driver and a fill-in mail carrier during his lifetime. In his spare time he enjoyed other outdoor activities, especially fishing and hunting. He was known to many as a ?crack? shot.

As a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn, LaVerne took part in many church activities and served on the church council. He had also served on the Board of Education for Fairview School, and was a member of the Auburn Eagles and 50+ year member of the Elks Club of Falls City. In his earlier days LaVerne played men?s softball, and rode with saddle clubs in the area.

In January of 2012 LaVerne and Helen became residents of Colonial Acres in Humboldt, Nebraska. It was there LaVerne passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the age of 90 years, 8 months, and 24 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Raymond, and sister and brother-in-law Vera Mae and Howard (Smitty) Smith.

LaVerne is survived by his wife Helen of Humboldt; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Dean Bogle of Humboldt; grandchildren Dena Stevenson and Delyn and wife Betsy Bogle; great-grandchildren Corbin, Taylor, Ivy, and Paxton Bogle and Darby Stevenson; brother- and sister-in-law Robert and Rosalie Davis of Stella; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were Sunday, September 9, 2012 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn, officiated by Rev. Ken Miller. Donna Caspers was organist for a solo by John Chatelain and congregational singing. Pallbearers were Mark Harms, Greg Lockard, Daryl Obermeyer, Dennis Volkman, Chuck Knipe, and Dick Hull. Honorary bearers were Harold ?Shorty? Wagner, Herb Lash, Sterling Norvell, Don Norvell, Robert Norvell, and Robert Davis. Burial was in Sheridan Cemetery near Auburn.
