Lenora (Behrends) Remmers

March 11, 1931 — July 26, 2022

Lenora Lois (Behrends) Remmers was born the youngest child and only daughter of parents Albert W. and Adele L. (Antholz) Behrends on March 11, 1931, on the family farm southwest of Auburn, NE. She was baptized into a lifelong membership at St. John’s (Stone) Church on April 16, 1931; she was confirmed on March 24, 1945, by John 17:3: “This is life eternal that they might know Thee, the only true God and Jesus Christ who Thou has sent.” Lenora entered peacefully into eternal life on July 26, 2022 with her sons by her side at Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln.

Lenora attended Auburn District 41 to the 8th grade. She married Glen J. Remmers on October 23, 1949 at St. John’s; they made their home west of the Remmers “home place” until 1961. The couple reared three sons: Ron, Rick, and Rod on the home place until they moved into Johnson in March, 1999.

Lenora was a hard-working farm wife, raising chickens and preserving produce from a large family garden to feed her growing sons. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crafting, creating many a project for family members. For years, she and St. John’s Ladies spent their winter Thursdays sewing and tying quilts to be donated to those less fortunate. She was the eternal spectator from the bleachers, watching her husband, sons, and grandchildren play ball.

Lenora was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother Lydia Behrends, husband Glen in 1999; son Rick in 2003; great-grandson Trenton Lunzmann; brothers and sisters-in-law Melvin (Lena and Louise), Ivan (Anna), Clarence (Lorene), Orval (Ora), Chester (Doris); stepbrother Alister Behrends, sisters-in-law Donna Behrends and Kay Graham; and brother-in-law Eldon Bohling.

Leaving to mourn her passing are her sons: Ron (Darla) of Olathe, KS and Rod (Chyrel) of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren Samantha (Derek) Gaughan, Wade Colgrove, Emily Remmers, Judd (Emilie) Remmers, Jodie (Shane) Johnson, Jackie (Ryan) Lunzmann, Rhea Kollars, Lance (Kelsey) Remmers; brother Maynard Behrends; sister-in-law Joan Bohling; brother-in-law Robert Graham; and a host of great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

At the age of 91 years, 4 months, and 15 days, Lenora will be laid to rest August 1 at St. John’s Cemetery beside her husband Glen.

A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Everett Brailey, was held Monday, August 1, 2022, at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Susie Hogrefe was accompanist for congregational hymns. Casket bearers were Ron Remmers, Rod Remmers, Judd Remmers, Lance Remmers, Shane Johnson, Ryan Lunzmann, Wade Colgrove, Derek Gaughan, and Craig Behrends. Flower attendants were Jodie Johnson, Jackie Lunzmann, Rhea Kollars, and Emily Remmers.
