Leo Dietrich

Leo James Dietrich was born February 25, 1943 in Buffalo, New York to Leo and Gertrude (Crotty) Dietrich. Leo was raised in the Buffalo suburbs, and graduated from Frontier Central High School in June 1961. He earned his Bachelors Degree in Education from Peru State College, Peru, Nebraska in May 1965.

Leo was united in marriage to Connie Hoschar on March 18, 1966. They had one daughter, Debra, born on January 2, 1967.

For over 35 years, Leo was employed by the Auburn, Nebraska Public School District. He began teaching science in the Auburn Middle School in 1967. While teaching, he also coached football and wrestling.

After completing his School Administrative Masters Degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1974, Leo became the Auburn Middle School Administrator. He retired from that position in May 2002.

Leo was affiliated with many organizations during his life. He was an Admiral in the Great Navy of Nebraska, served as president of the Auburn Education Association, and belonged to the Nebraska State Education Association, National Education Association, and Nebraska Association of School Administrators. He also was a member of the Auburn Jaycees, Optimists, Eagles, and Country Club, of which he served on the board and as president.

Leo will be remembered for his love of fishing, boating, and college football.

After three years of declining health and facing down many setbacks, Leo was rushed to St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska on Sunday, November 14, 2010. With family around him, he passed away there on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the age of 67 years, 8 months, and 22 days.

Leo is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dennis Dietrich. Leo leaves behind many loving family and friends, including his wife Connie of Auburn; daughter and son-in-law Debra and Greg Curnes of Shell Knob, MO; granddaughter Sydney Curnes; sisters Dianne and husband Larry Peterson of Auburn, Marilyn Wyman of Evans, NY, Gretchen Bradley of Point Breeze, NY, Dody and husband Richard Fletcher of Clymer, NY; father-in-law Joe Hoschar of Murray, NE; and brother-in-law Lon Hoschar of Murray, NE.
