Les Dirksen

December 3, 1935 — September 8, 2019

Leslie Richard Dirksen of Auburn, Nebraska, was called to his heavenly home to be with his Lord on September 8, 2019 at the age of 83. Les died at home like he lived, surrounded by family and friends and the people he loved.

Les was the only son of Dick Louis and Pauline Daisy (Sugden) Dirksen of Tecumseh Nebraska. Les and his only sister Diane helped on the family farm while growing up. He graduated from Tecumseh high school in 1954 where he met wife Sylvia.

Les was baptized and confirmed at the St. John Lutheran Church in Tecumseh. As a longtime member, he was active as an usher and elder among other duties. In 2011 Les joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn where he and Sylvia were also active members.

On December 4, 1955 Les was united in marriage to Sylvia Nadine Warnke. Les was a country boy and and Sylvia was a city girl and there was a lot for them both to learn. Les loved to tell stories about Sylvia learning the way of the farm. The family farm was near Johnson and they lived there for 50 years before moving to Auburn. They had two sons Terry and Don.

Through the years Les was always very active and social. He was a member of the Naval Reserve, and also served on boards such as NRD and at the School. Les enjoyed having a good time, when the farm work was done you could find Les and Sylvia going out with friends, playing games, and traveling. Some of the best times were had around the table enjoying a card game or meal with several generations of family.

Les was preceded in death by his parents Dick and Pauline, his wife Sylvia, his son Terry, and his daughter in law Cheryl. He is survived by sister Diane, his son Don, and his daughter in law Becky. Grandchildren are Mitch (wife Shannon), Jessica (husband Cody), Tyler, Kelsey, and Matthew (wife Sarah). Les is also survived by 8 great grandchildren. Many more family and friends mourn him as well, including his very good friend Marie Hitz.

Les lived for his faith, family, and friends. May the Lord grant comfort to all those who love Les and mourn his passing.

A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Jonathan Rathjen, was held Friday, September 13, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn. Sandy Wilson was accompanist for congregational singing. Casket bearers were Mitchell Dirksen, Tyler Dirksen, Matthew Dirksen, Cody Bunda, Carson Bunda, and Bill Baird. Burial was in Spring Creek Cemetery near Tecumseh.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.
