Leslie "Festus" Dean

Leslie Burton Dean, son of Marcile Elaine Dean, was born June 6, 1964 in Humboldt, Nebraska. He lived in Humboldt, the Auburn area, and moved to Peru, Nebraska with his grandparents. Les graduated from Auburn High School in 1982.

On October 15, 1990 Les was united in marriage to Cheri Morris in Auburn. They made their home in Peru and would be blessed with one son, Robert.

Les, or Festus as he was known, had worked as an auto mechanic and at the Sinclair station in Peru when it was open. He hired on at Cooper Nuclear Station at Brownville, Nebraska in 1992. Les worked in the maintenance department at Cooper performing many different tasks. He retired in 2011 after an accident at work.

When Les wasn’t tinkering in his garage or working on a car, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening in addition to being with his family.

On the morning of Saturday, April 4, 2020 Les was rushed from his home in Peru to the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn. He passed away there shortly after his arrival, having reached the age of 55 years, 9 months, and 29 days. He was preceded in death by his mother Marcile, grandparents Virgil and Lena Dean, brother-in-law Larry Morris, Jr., and niece Jessica Lyons.

Les will be greatly missed by his wife Cheri of Peru; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Samantha of Peru; parents-in-law Larry, Sr. and Barbara Morris of Auburn; nephew Jacob Morris; great-nieces and -nephews Lillian, Chloe, Kaylee, Maddox, John, Jr.; other relatives and friends.

In accordance with Covid-19 restrictions, a private family graveside memorial and committal service will be held at Mount Vernon Cemetery at Peru.

Memorials, suggested to family choice, may be mailed to PO Box 11, Peru, NE.

Services are entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
