Linda Barclay (Ratzlow) Schneider, one of three children of Vernon and Patricia Barclay (Sullivan) Ratzlow, was born May 17, 1947 in Phillips, Texas. Linda attended school in Phillips, graduating from high school there in 1965. She went on to attend the University of Texas, and received her teaching degree in English and Mathematics from West Texas A & M.
On March 21, 1980 Linda was united in marriage to Steve Schneider in the Methodist Church in Borger, Texas. Linda?s son Steven Clay Lewis was also a member of the new family. When a fire later that year destroyed the school in Phillips where the couple was employed, the family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. Two daughters, Amanda Barclay and Sarah Ruth, were born to the couple in Lincoln. The family moved back to Texas in 1986, and then returned to Nebraska where Linda taught in the Arlington school system. In 2006 Linda and Steve moved to Auburn, Nebraska and split their time between Auburn and their lake home near Union, Nebraska.
Linda was an educator for 14 years in Texas schools and several years in Arlington, Nebraska before retiring from teaching. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Valley View, Texas, and belonged to various educational organizations. She enjoyed crafting and ran two different craft booths while she was in Texas. In her retirement years, she developed a love for making greeting cards, and enjoyed the group she met with to create cards.
Linda suffered from health problems in recent months, and on Thursday, September 30, 2010 was rushed to the emergency room at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. She passed away there later that day at the age of 63 years, 4 months, and 13, days. Her parents Vernon and Patricia, step-father Albert Woodward, father-in-law Harold, and former father-in-law Herschal Lewis preceded her in death.
Linda is survived by her husband Steve of Auburn and Union; son and daughter-in-law Clay and Lisa Lewis of Austin, TX; daughters Mandy Schneider-Laycock of Austin, TX; Sarah Schneider of Austin, TX; grandchildren Abby, Tatum, and Owen Lewis; Kendall Laycock; brother Russell and wife Dianna Ratzlow of Lincoln; Janis and husband Brian Taylor of Sugar Land, TX; mother-in-law Mildred Schneider of Lincoln; brothers-in-law Larry and wife Carolee Schneider of Ralston; Roger and wife Chen Schneider of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law Kristie and husband Randy Jirkovsky of LaVista; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
vice will be Tuesday, October 5, 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Auburn. Visitation with family will be at the funeral home Monday 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Cremation will follow the service.
