Lucille Bohlken

Lucille H. Bohlken, oldest of three children of John and Frances (Gritz) Frerichs, was born September 30, 1912 on the family farm near Johnson, Nebraska. She received her early education at a rural school near her home, and graduated from Johnson High School in 1930. Lucille attended Peru Normal School from 1930 to 1932 and graduated with a degree in education. She taught in rural schools in Nemaha County for five years.

On June 15, 1937 Lucille was united in marriage to William J. Bohlken at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn, Nebraska. They were blessed with a son, William R., and a daughter, Maureen Kay.

Lucille was baptized into the Lutheran faith and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church (now Faith Lutheran Church) in Talmage, Nebraska. She was a lifetime member of this church, and was very active in Paula Ruth Circle and the quilting the ladies of the church performed. Lucille was also very active in Trestleboard Chapter #67 Order of Eastern Star of Brock, Nebraska, where she received her 50 year pin in 2004.

Lucille and William farmed near Brock, where they lived in the same home together for over 50 years. She was always a busy farm wife and tended a huge garden. She continued her farm life even after William?s death in 1994 until a tornado forced her to move to Auburn in 2000. She lived at Long?s Creek Village and later moved to the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn. It was there she passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at the age of 97 years, 9 months, and 18 days. In addition to her husband William, Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Raymond and Ival Frerichs, and grandson Todd William Reinking.

Lucille is survived by her son Bill and wife Ellen Bohlken of Auburn; daughter Maureen and husband Allan Reinking of LaGrange, WY; grandchildren Jay Bohlken and wife Abbie of Syracuse, NE; Troy Reinking and wife Jill of Cheyenne, WY; Joel Bohlken and wife Natalie of Cedar Bluffs, NE; Nikki Hofmann and husband Mike of Billings, MT; Jon Bohlken and wife Keri of Phoenix, AZ; Angie Herrera and husband George of Peoria, AZ; 14 great-grandchildren; in-laws Edna Grundman, Vern and Lois Bohlken, Doris Frerichs; cousins Marjorie Engles and Carol Bohling; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Friday, July 23, 2:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Talmage, with Pastors Glatha Rathjen and Wm. Dressen officiating. Rita Ruenholl was organist for congregational hymns. Pallbearers weregrandchildren Jay Bohlken, Troy Reinking, Joel Bohlken, Nikki Hofmann, Jon Bohlken, and Angie Herrera. Susan Piper and Sylvia Smith served as flower attendants. Burial followed in the Grant Evergreen Cemetery near Talmage.
