Lydia G. (Bowen) Dahlenburg

November 10, 1920 - January 23, 2018

Lydia Geraldine (Bowen) Dahlenburg, one of seven children of Aurelius and Johanna (Thesenga) Bowen, was born November 10, 1920, near White, South Dakota. She was raised on a farm south of Avon, South Dakota, and baptized in Freidensburg Bible Church. Lydia attended school in Avon, where she graduated from high school, and was homecoming queen. She then attended Freeman Jr. College for one year, and taught rural schools in South Dakota for four years. On April 18, 1945, Lydia was married to Maurice Dahlenburg in Avon. They farmed near Avon, and were blessed with a son, Gerald. Lydia moved to Auburn, Nebraska in 1972. While in Auburn she served as Dietary Supervisor at Nemaha County Hospital until retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Auburn Baptist Church. Lydia took great pride in her tomatoes and flowers, and enjoyed quilting with her sister Aletha. Although she was able to stay at her home until late in life, she moved to the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn in July of 2016. It was there she passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at the age of 97 years, 2 months, and 13 days. She was preceded in death by her son Gerald “Jerry”, husband Maurice, sisters Aletha Bowen and Betty Boight, and brothers Roger, George, Marlin, and Neil. Lydia is survived by her daughter-in-law JoAnn Dahlenburg of Howe; granddaughters Sherry Dahlenburg and husband James Watkins of Auburn; Lori Hanger of Auburn; great-grandchildren Kevin and wife Marla Hanger of OK; NaTasha Hanger of AR; great-great-grandchildren Acea, Xander, and Erik, Jr. “Lemon”; other relatives and friends. Memorials are suggested to family choice.
