Marge Vickers

Marjorie May Louise (Sapp) Vickers was born August 11, 1930 in Albion, Nebraska. One of three children of Elmer and Ruth (Hopkins) Sapp, Marjorie was a high school graduate of Riverton, Iowa public schools. She also received her teaching certificate from Peru Teachers College in Peru, Nebraska.

In 1948 Marjorie was married to Bill Vickers in Nebraska City, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with three children, John, Linda, and Jeff, and made their home in Auburn and the family farm near Peru.

Marge taught for a year at Hamburg, Iowa public schools before her marriage to Bill. She later operated the Green Lantern Café in Auburn, and also worked at Tiny?s Café and the King Louie factory in Auburn.

As a longtime member of the Auburn Eagles Auxiliary, she served as treasurer of the organization for many years. She enjoyed card games and board games of all types, and most often won when she played. Later in her life she became interested in computers and their many uses.

Marge passed away at her home in Auburn on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at the age of 79 years, 8 months, and 24 days. Her parents preceded her in death.

Marjorie is survived by Bill Vickers of Peru; sons John Vickers of Omaha; Jeff (CarrieAnn) Vickers of Omaha; daughter Linda (Charlie) Otts of Schuyler; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother Glen (Mary) Sapp of Westboro, MO; sister Myrtle Sapp Nixon of Cherokee, IA; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Monday, May 10, 2010 at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn, with Rev. Frank Zimmerman officiating. Donna Caspers was organist for special music by the duet of Rich Allgood and Nathan Allgood. Pallbearers were Tyler Vickers, Creighton Vickers, Kellen Vickers, Colby Cech, Kip Otts, and Dan Cech. Burial followed in Sheridan West Cemetery near Auburn.
