Nellie L. Grooms

Nellie Lavonne Grooms was born December 27, 1928 to Walter and Minnie (Colerick) Curttright in Nemaha, Nebraska. She was the youngest of 11 children. Nellie grew up in Nemaha and graduated from high school there in 1947.

On February 3, 1951 Nellie was united in marriage to Bob Grooms. They made their home in Nemaha and were blessed with one son, Scott.

In addition to running the household and raising their son, Nellie worked at the Nemaha County Courthouse for 12 years. She also was an Avon consultant in the early ‘70’s.

Nellie was a member of the Nemaha Methodist Church and was very involved in church activities. She also enjoyed playing Aggravation and card games with friends and family.

Nellie was admitted to the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn in April of 2016. In failing health for the past year, Nellie passed away at Good Sam on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the age of 91 years, 10 months, and 25 days. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, and all of her siblings.

Nellie is remembered lovingly by her son and daughter-in-law Scott and Trisha Grooms of Nemaha; grandchildren Trent Grooms of Omaha and Charlotte Grooms of Denver, CO; brother-in-law Raymond (Everna) Grooms of Nemaha; many, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be Tuesday, November 24, 10:30 a.m. at the Nemaha Methodist Church. Social distancing guidelines will be in place and masks are required. Burial will follow in the Nemaha Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
