Norma J. Ossowski

December 22, 1931 — August 28, 2019

Norma Jean (Jeanneret) Ossowski, one of 12 children of Paul and Millie (Marchand) Jeanneret, was born December 22, 1931 in rural Cook, Nebraska. She attended school in Brock, Nebraska and graduated from high school there in 1949. Norma’s mother died while she was in high school, and she helped care for her younger siblings.

In January of 1950 Norma was married to Dean Coatney. They were the parents of a daughter, Joyce. After about 10 years the couple separated and later divorced. Norma was united in marriage to Richard Ossowski on July 8, 1965 in Fairbury, Nebraska. They first made their home in Blue Springs, Nebraska with their family including Joyce and Richard’s three sons Mike, Rick, and Tim. Norma and Dick were later blessed with another son, Dale. They finished raising their family in Brock, Nebraska.

In addition to raising her family and taking care of the household, Norma had worked at the Danny Dare Sewing Factory in Auburn and as a caregiver with Health and Human Services in southeast Nebraska. She also had chickens, milked the family cow, and bucket-fed calves.

Norma was very involved locally and regionally in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts as her sons grew. She was named as the Johnson Woman of the Year for her involvement in the community. She loved flowers, gardening, canning and was an excellent seamstress.

In her later years, along with her husband Dick, Norma was a resident of several nursing homes in the area. She passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society-Syracuse at the age of 87 years, 8 months, and 6 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Mike and his significant other Jan Hylton, brothers Richard, Paul, Marv, George, and Don, sister-in-law Donna and her husband Mel Aden, and brother-in-law Norman Ossowski.

Norma is survived by her husband Richard of Syracuse; children Joyce and husband Frank Swanson of Union; Rick Ossowski of Hastings; Tim and wife Patty Ossowski of Hastings; Dale and wife Julie Ossowski of Hastings; grandchildren and spouses Erik and Angela Swanson; Nicole and Michael Wagner; Joseph and Melinda Evans; Kyndell Princ; Connor Ossowski; Gracyn Ossowski; Carrie Blanchard; John and Renee Powers; Katie and Drew Tillemans; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings and spouses Rose and Roy Edmonds of Plattsmouth; Anna Coatney of Auburn; Darlene Brown of Brock; Dean and Linda Jeanneret of Nebraska City; John and Helen Jeanneret of Johnson; Clarence Jeanneret of Auburn; sisters-in-law Marilyn Jeanneret of Nebraska City; Yvonne Jeanneret of Auburn; Vera Jeanneret of Brock; Jan Jeanneret of Papillion; Aurora Jeanneret of Tonala Jalisco,Mexico; brothers-in-law and spouses Jim and Marlene Ossowski of Wymore; Larry and Bev Ossowski of Beatrice; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be Friday, August 30, 2:00 p.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Burial of ashes will follow at Clifton Cemetery near Brock. No visitation is planned.

Memorials are suggested to the Brock Christian Church or Auburn Rescue Squad.
