Randal L. Wallar

Randal LeRoy Wallar, one of two children of Mervin LeRoy “Budge” and Zelda (Hayes) Wallar, was born February 15, 1942, in Auburn, Nebraska. He grew up on a farm southwest of Johnson, Nebraska and graduated from Johnson High School in 1960.
Randal was married to Mary Hall in 1961, and the couple was blessed with two children, Scott and Kristine. Mary passed away in March of 1969. On October 2, 1970, Randy married Margaret Valenta in Crete, Nebraska. They made their home in LaVista, Nebraska, where the couple lived for close to 52 years. The family grew with the birth of Jim, Mandy, and Tim.
After attending tech school Randy began a 25-year career in carpet and flooring installation. He next worked at Valmont Industries in Valley, Nebraska before taking a position with the City of LaVista Public Works, retiring in 2011.
Randy doted on his grandkids and attended as many of their activities as he could. They remember his loving way of teasing them, and his greeting them at the door with “we don’t live here anymore” and slamming the door.
As a driver in open wheel racing, Randy was also a fan of racing in general, and traveled with family to many types of car races. He loved to go fishing in local lakes and was accomplished in woodworking. Randy and Margaret enjoyed traveling and visited 49 of the 50 states. Although he was never a fan of reading books, Randy developed a passion for audiobooks, listening to 136 from January through August in 2022.
After a diagnosis of cancer in April of 2021, Randy made the most of his time visiting with old friends and enjoying family. He passed away at home in LaVista on Wednesday, September 1, 2022, at the age of 80 years, 6 months, and 17 days. His parents and first wife Mary preceded him in death.
Left to remember his loving ways are his wife Margaret of LaVista; children Scott, Kristine, and Jim, all of Omaha, Mandy of Bellevue, and Tim (Abbie) of Papillion; grandchildren; sister Karen Henrichs of LaVista; other relatives and friends.
A private family burial of ashes will be at the Johnson Cemetery.
