Raymond Garver

June 14, 1929 — November 15, 2016

Charles Raymond Garver, born June 14, 1929 at home in Brownville, Nebraska, was one of two children of Charles and Helen (Newton) Garver. He attended country school near Brownville, and graduated from high school in Brownville. Ray was quite a basketball player while in school.

Ray served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and returned to the Brownville area after his discharge.

On March 23, 1958, Raymond was united in marriage to Ida May Cooney at the home of Rev. Kiefer in Auburn, Nebraska. They made their home in Nemaha County and were blessed with two daughters, Teresa and Susan.

Ray farmed most of his life, not just his own land but he farmed for Mrs. Hall from Brownville and Mr. Good in the Peru area. He was a stickler for keeping his farm and house well maintained. He also held jobs at Peru State College and in security at Cooper Nuclear Station.

Ray was a former member of the American Legion, and was a big Husker football and basketball fan. In his younger years, he enjoyed drawing in pencil when he had the time.

After an illness and becoming a resident of Golden Living Center in Nebraska City, Nebraska, Raymond passed away there on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at the age of 87 years, 5 months, and 1 day. His parents preceded him in death.

Ray is survived by his wife Ida May of Brownville; daughters Teresa Garver of Auburn; Susan Stoner and husband Andy of Stilwell, KS; sister Carolyn Reilly of Auburn; other relatives and friends.
