Richard Leroy “Dick” Hull was born on April 14, 1941 in Auburn, NE. Dick was the son of Lemuel and Nelva (Weers) Hull. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran (Stone) Church in Johnson, NE. He graduated from Johnson High School where he played football. Dick had two sons, Alan and Scot. He spent most of his adult life in the service of his nation. He joined the US Air Force where he served honorably, including an assignment in France. He later became a member of the US Army Reserves. He attended Officers Candidate School at Fort Benning, GA where he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. Over the years Dick served in numerous responsible and challenging positions in the Army Reserve before retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Dick served the US Army in a civilian capacity in Human Resources. His civilian assignments found him in managerial positions in Minnesota, Illinois, Texas, and Wisconsin. He retired from the Rock Island arsenal in 1994 and returned to the home farm he loved near Johnson, Nebraska. He was a Master Mason at Brownville, and also belonged to the Johnson American Legion. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Nebraska Huskers and the Johnson Brock Eagles. Dick passed away on June 19th at the Good Samaritan Society in Auburn with family and friends by his side. Dick was preceded in death by his parents Lemuel and Nelva Hull. Those left to mourn his passing are his sons, Alan of Moundsview, MN; Scot and wife Tracy of Lindstrom, MN; granddaughter Gabriella of Moundsview, MN; brothers Gary and wife Lola of Waco, TX; Don and wife Lisa of Hewitt, TX; Dennis and wife Monique of Temiscaming, Quebec, Canada; two nieces Brianne and Tanya; two nephews Ryan and Colen; aunt, cousins, and numerous friends. Special friends include Bobette and husband John Guenther of Auburn, Bob and wife Judy Lowrey of Auburn, Laura Lea and husband Jeff Fossenbarger of Johnson. Two of his military friends and fishing buddies are General Gerald Albrecht and Dave Lunsford. Dick was a wonderful son, father, grandfather, brother, friend and citizen who will be greatly missed. Graveside services will be Tuesday, June 23rd at 11:00am at the St. John Lutheran Stone Cemetery near Johnson with a Luncheon to follow at the Johnson Legion. Memorials suggested to the Johnson Fire Department, Johnson Quick Response Team or the Johnson Brock Athletic Club (JBAC).
