Sheila Mayfield

April 11, 1954 — July 19, 2016

Sheila Elaine (Wolfe) Mayfield, one of six children of Thomas D. and Bonnie G. (Damon) Wolfe, Sr., was born April 11, 1954, in San Antonio, Texas. Her family moved to Auburn, Nebraska, and Sheila attended Auburn Public Schools, graduating from high school in 1972. She went on to receive an associates degree at a dental assistant college in Denver, Colorado.

On July 21, 1973, Sheila was united in marriage to John Mayfield at the Nemaha County Courthouse in Auburn, Nebraska. They were blessed with three children: Amanda, Melanie, and Alex.

Sheila worked for many years in the dental office of Dr. Rick Penney in Auburn. After closing of the dental office, Sheila worked as a waitress at Arbor Manor in Auburn, and then as bartender at the Auburn Eagles Club for 11 years. She worked at Glenn’s Corner Market before she and John became owner/operators of Downtown Variety in Auburn. Sheila’s work history then included Holly’s Hobby Café and in the school lunch program in Auburn. Her latest career choice was as a caregiver with SENDS in Auburn, a job which she enjoyed very much.

As a 50-year member of Auburn First United Methodist Church, Sheila was involved with the Prayer and Share Group in addition to other church activities. She also belonged to the Auburn Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed visits to the casino, and loved her pets. Most of all, Sheila loved spending time with her grandchildren and following their activities.

On the night of Tuesday, July 19, 2016, Sheila was rushed to the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn. It was there, that same night, she passed away at the age of 62 years, 3 months, and 8 days. Her parents, sister-in-law Ann Wolfe, and niece Mackenzie Browne preceded her in death.

Sheila is survived by her husband John of Auburn; daughters and sons-in-law Amanda and Jeff Powell of Auburn; Melanie and Dan Duncan of Uncertain, TX; son Alex Mayfield of Auburn; grandchildren Grace and Faith Allgood; Carter and Adalynn Duncan; siblings and spouses Kristi Jokela of Omaha; Tom Wolfe, Jr. of Omaha; Scott and Kira Wolfe of Bellevue; Penny and Dave Salefski of Monticello, IL; Glen and Lily Wolfe of Ladonia, TX; “adopted family” Carmen, Brian, and Rylee of Auburn; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
