Sue (Moore) Cowan

May 3, 1951 — August 2, 2020

Sue Ann (Moore) Cowan, the youngest of three daughters of Robert Cletis and Mildred A. (Williams) Moore, was born May 3, 1951 at Tushla Hospital in Auburn, Nebraska. Sue received her early education at Brownville School District 34 through 8th grade and graduated from Auburn High School in 1969.

On December 23, 1970 Sue was united in marriage to R. Edward Cowan at Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn. Three days after their marriage Sue and Ed moved to Denton, Texas. They also resided in Guymon, Oklahoma and Dothan, Alabama before returning to Auburn in 1972.

In 1976 Sue and Ed were blessed with one son, Joshua Moore Cowan, who became the absolute light in his mother’s life.

In 1974 Sue and Ed transferred their church membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn, where Sue very much enjoyed her involvement with Altar Guild, and also served on the church council.

Sue was employed at various businesses in Auburn through the years, including being the branch manager of Midwest Federal S & L for 3 years. She held a real estate agent’s license for a few years and was a registered abstracter for twelve years. Sue also worked at OK Tire in Auburn for 10 years and Helena Chemical for 4½ years, retiring from there in May 2017.

Sue was also actively involved in community organizations, serving as president of Auburn JayCeettes, Nemaha County Hospital Auxiliary, and chairperson for the Bloodmobile. The organization nearest and dearest to Sue’s heart was the Walnut Grove Cemetery Association Board. She served with true dedication beginning as a trustee in 1985, secretary in 1992, and treasurer in 2003. She was caretaker with her Dad for 14 years. Sue maintained the records and was overseer of all business affairs until 2020.

In her younger years Sue did a lot of hunting and fishing with her Dad. She loved to read and went through thousands of books in her lifetime. She also loved flowers, especially those outdoors with all types of lilies being her favorite. She liked to work with her flowers and really enjoyed pieces of yard art that she placed throughout the yard every spring.

Through all her interests and activities, family was always first and foremost in Sue’s mind, especially Joshua and his family. Sue’s granddaughters Ella and Erica were the most precious gifts from God she ever received, after her son. Attending the girls’ school musical and sporting events was very important to her.

Her close friends were also very dear to her.

Sue was diagnosed with cancer and through her fight with the disease was able to stay at home with help from family and medical professionals. She passed away at her home in Auburn on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at the age of 69 years, 2 months, and 30 days. She was preceded in death by her sister Carole Sue Moore, her parents R.C. and Mildred, and parents-in-law Ralph and Lena.

Those left to celebrate her life are her husband Ed; son and daughter-in-law Joshua and Misty Cowan of Lincoln; granddaughters Ella and Erica; sister and brother-in-law Jeanne and Bill Casey of Olathe, KS; sisters-in-law Lorene (Larry) Strahm of Sabetha, KS; Kay (Mike) Durham of Shawnee, KS; brother-in-law Marvin (Janet) Cowan of Springfield, OR; very special cousins Debbie French, Denise Lynch, and JoEllyn Neemann; other relatives and many friends.
