Ann Hendrickson

Annie Marie Hendrickson, one of seven children of Forrest Ernest and Mary-i-zetta (Turner) Hendrickson, was born April 18, 1932, on a farm north of Peru, Nebraska.  She was baptized in the Peru Christian Church, attended school in Peru, and graduated from Peru Prep.

After high school Ann worked at Ocoma Foods in Omaha, Nebraska for 24 years.  She also worked at Daylight Donuts in Peru and the Missouri Beef Packing Plant in Phelps City, Missouri.  Annie retired at age 62 but didn’t slow down in her activities.

Always very active in her community, Ann belonged to Peru Kiwanis Club, the Peru Chamber of Commerce, and served as President of the Cemetery Auxiliary and the Peru Museum.  She joined the Peru Community Church after the Christian Church closed and was very involved with the Ladie’s Guild, serving as vice-president at one time.  Fire Department fund raisers always included Ann’s chili, pies, and other contributions.

Ann enjoyed playing cards when she wasn’t busy otherwise.  She played at the Auburn Eagles Club and was a member of the MMM Bridge Club and the “Fearsome Foursome”, a Wednesday afternoon card group.

Annie was able to stay at her home in Peru up until her final days when she was moved to the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn.  It was there, on Thursday, November 30, 2023, she passed away at the age of 91 years, 7 months, and 12 days.  Her brothers Raymond and Paul, sisters Georgia Shandy, Edith Mae Furnas and Audrey Hartman, and nephews Wesley Shandy, Michael John Coddington, and Ronald Hartman preceded her in death.

Ann is remembered fondly by her sister Pauline Coddington of Poughkeepsie, NY; niece Judy (Jerry) Christensen of Lincoln and their sons Brett and Brian; niece Carol (Wayne) Richardson of Jackson Hole, WY; nephew Wayne Shandy of Rock Port, MO; nephew Jerry Furnas of Brownville; dear friend Theresa Westfall of Peru; many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A funeral service will be Tuesday, December 5, 11:00 a.m. at the Peru Community Church.  Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery at Peru.  Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Peru Community Church, Peru Volunteer Fire Department, or Peru Cemetery Auxiliary.
