Obituary

Anna M. Van Der Kamp, aged 75, of Auburn, Nebraska, passed away on February 17, 2026, at her home. Born on July 11, 1950, in Chomutov, Czechoslovakia, Anna’s life began amid the backdrop of a tumultuous era. At the age of 18, in 1968, her father sent her to Germany to escape the war, leading to her eventual relocation to the United States in the early 1970s.

Anna built a fulfilling career that spanned several decades. She diligently served in various positions, starting at American Meter in Nebraska City and later contributing her talents to Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Korner Kitchen, Dollar General, Guardian Angels in Auburn, and lastly, dedicating 11 years to Apace (formerly Region V) in Auburn. Her commitment to her work was evident and deeply valued by colleagues and friends alike.

Anna cherished her family above all else. She took immense joy in spending time with and caring for her loved ones, exemplifying the selfless spirit of a devoted family member. She is survived by her husband David; her children Tim Russell of Julian, Melissa Schreiner of San Antonio, TX, and Steve (Mandy) Van Der Kamp of Nebraska City; as well as her cherished grandchildren: Courtney (Andrew) Wrenn, JR (Megan) Hobbie, Brandon Hobbie, Kaja Hobbie, Sarah Knowlton-Van Der Kamp, Rebekah Knowlton, Gavin Schreiner, Winston Schreiner, Kobe Van Der Kamp, and Abby Van Der Kamp, along with six great-grandchildren. Additionally, Anna had numerous other relatives and friends who will remember her fondly.

Anna had an array of hobbies and interests that brought her joy. She participated in a bowling league and found solace in quilting and crafting. Her enthusiasm for decorating during Christmas was infectious, and she was known for her baking, making many birthday cakes over the years for those she loved. Traveling was another passion, with Aruba holding a special place in her heart. She and David traveled to all 50 states in the United States, checking off their final destination this last October.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Václav and Marie (Jelikova) Karban; her daughter Terri Hobbie; and three older brothers.

Anna will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her kindness to others, and the many lives she touched throughout her remarkable journey.
