Barbara B Butts, 89 ½, passed away in her sleep, Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the Silvergate Assisted Living Home in Chandler, Arizona. She had been suffering from dementia for a few years which brought sorrow to family and friends. Even though she had dementia she never forgot she was a believer of Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She continued to read her bible and attend church with her daughter and son-in-law until she was unable.
She was born March 28, 1935, in Oregon City, Oregon to the late Lyonel Cecil Bacon, Sr. and Dorothy Elenor Myers. Her family then moved to Brownville, Nebraska and later to Auburn, Nebraska. She lived in Plattsmouth, Nebraska before moving to Tempe, Arizona to live with her daughter Diane J. Brown and husband Les R. Brown in 2010.
She is survived by her three children, Diane J. Brown, husband Les of Tempe, AZ, Fredrick M. Butts, wife Etta of Portland, TX and Steven F. Butts, wife Shari of Wisner, NE. She is survived by her sister, Patty S. Wendeln and husband Roger of Lincoln, Nebraska and brother, Lyonel Cecil Bacon, Jr., Falls City, Nebraska. She has five grandchildren, Paul Ivan McDonald and wife Laura of Mesa, Arizona. Heather Diane Butts of Rochester, NY and Isaac Steven Butts, Sioux City, Iowa, Joshua James Butts and River Elizabeth Butts of Wisner, NE.
Barbara was married to Floyd Ivan Butts for 48 years. During their marriage she was a military wife till he retired as a US Army Viet Nam war veteran. They lived in many military bases across the United States and overseas, including Frankfurt, Germany for three years and Okinawa a year where they also served in the local Baptist church. Her husband, Floyd then went into the ministry as a Southern Baptist pastor and served thirty-five years. Their last church was a plant ministry in Plattsmouth NE. He passed away only getting to preach there one time. She continued after his passing and helped serve in the ministry by leading a women’s bible study and playing the piano for the church services as she did in their previous ministries.
She was quite talented in the arts of quilting, drawing, painting, crocheting, cross stitching, dress making, cooking and gardening. She produced the most wonderful flower gardens. She was acknowledged by the Auburn, Nebraska newspaper “The Nemaha County Herald” with a picture of her standing by her beautiful delphinium flower that had grown over five feet tall. She also received her certification as a Patient Care Assistant in Tempe, AZ and completed her NHCA Nursing Assistant Basic Course in Plattsmouth, NE and applied them to her career during her lifetime.
