Elizabeth May Thresher, one of four children of Ralph J. and Ethel M. (Ward) Hanchett, was born March 2, 1936, in Strafford, Vermont. Betty, as she was known, grew up in Vermont and attended school at Thedford Academy.

On June 14, 1953, Betty was united in marriage to Richard Thresher in the Episcopal Church at Strafford, Vermont. The couple would be blessed with four children: Richard, Sharon, Faith, and Mark. Betty and Dick raised their family in Vermont and would later move to Nebraska after retirement. They moved to Dawson, Nebraska in 1988 and then to Auburn in 1994.

Betty worked for the lunch program at the school at Thedford, Vermont along with various odd jobs to coincide with their children at school, while also running the household. Betty also worked for a time as a seamstress at a bridal shop.

Betty liked to crochet, sew, and knit in her spare time. She also loved to play cards, Skip-Bo being one of her favorites. Betty also had a knack for gardening.

After a decline in her health, Betty moved to her son Rich’s home in Auburn. It is there that she passed away, surrounded by family, on Sunday, June 6, 2021, having reached the age of 85 years, 3 months, and 4 days. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Dick, sister Wilma, and brother Roland.
