Beverly Moody

Beverly Jean (Cowell) Clarke Moody, one of five children of Armond L. and Yvonne E. (Squires) Cowell, was born February 14, 1928 at Nemaha, Nebraska. She attended Cochran rural school and graduated from Auburn High School in 1945. She then went on to earn her teaching certificate from Peru State College.

After teaching in rural Nemaha County schools for five years, Bev began working at Glen?s Drug Store in Auburn. She was employed there for 40 years, and worked for 3 generations of the Glen family.

On June 27, 1952 Beverly was united in marriage to Robert I. Clarke in Auburn, and welcomed his son Robert as a part of her family. They made their home in rural Nemaha County until Robert?s passing in 1986. Bev married Vern J. Moody on December 27, 1992 in Auburn, when his children and grandchildren added to her family. Vern passed away in 1993.

Bev was baptized in the Auburn Christian Church on January 31, 1954, and became a faithful member of that church. She was also very active in the community, belonging to Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, Kiwanis, and the Auburn Country Club. In addition she served on the Sheridan Cemetery Board and as a Red Cross Volunteer.

In her last years, Beverly battled cancer and other illnesses, and eventually became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn. It was there she passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at the age of 82 years, 5 months, and 6 days. In addition to her husbands and parents, Bev was preceded in death by her step-son Robert W. Clarke and sister Linda Long.

Bev is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law Catharine and Robert Skeen of Auburn; Lora and Bob Heidzig of Auburn; brother and sister-in-law Lester and Barbara Cowell of Rock Port, MO; step-children Larry and wife Judy Moody of Lincoln; Allan and wife Edine Moody of Auburn; Virginia and husband Richard Groff of Stover, MO; Marilyn Heins of Central City, NE; 14 step-grandchildren; 30 step-great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Barry and wife Ruth Long of Fort Collins, CO; sister-in-law Eleanor and husband Bill Jenkins of Littleton, CO; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Auburn Christian Church, officiated by Rev. Corey Miller. Carlene Andrew was accompanist for solos by Dave Armstrong. Pallbearers were Kelly Clarke, Kevin Clarke, Will Clarke, Roger Wilcox, Aaron Heins, and David Maw. Honorary pallbearers were John Glen, John Gilbert, Gene Frederick, Scott Snyder, Jeff Gerdes, Paul Cowell, Jason Long, and Kyle Knippelmier. Burial followed in Sheridan Cemetery near Auburn.
