Obituary

Clarence McConnaughey, Jr., son of Clarence, Sr. and June (Weddle) McConnaughey, was born January 6, 1948, in Nebraska City, Nebraska. He grew up on the family farm on the Peru Bottom and attended Peru Normal School. Sonny, as he was known by many, helped his dad and Uncle Ed on the family farm.

On April 30, 1972, Sonny was united in marriage to April Bahr at the Stella Community Church in Stella, Nebraska. They made their first home in Auburn, Nebraska and would be blessed with three daughters: Shelly, Tracy (who died in infancy), and Terri.

Sonny was hired by Jimmy Grant and the family lived in a home on Grant Farms. Sonny and April lived there for many years before retiring and moving back into Auburn. He loved working with the crops and livestock on the farm.

In his spare time Sonny enjoyed the outdoors. He spent time fishing, hunting, and working in his yard and garden. Most of all, he loved spending time with family, especially his grandkids and great-granddaughter.

Sonny passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. His parents, infant daughter Tracy, and brother Jack preceded him in death.

He is remembered with love by his wife of 54 years April of Auburn; daughters and son-in-law Shelly McConnaughey of Auburn and Terri (Deric) Henningsen of Exira, IA; grandchildren Shasta McConnaughey (Ronnie Rockemann), Colby McConnaughey, Brantley McConnaughey, all of Auburn; great-granddaughter Tracy Rockemann; sister Doris Rempe of Lawrence, NE; sister-in-law Phyllis McConnaughey of Auburn; other relatives and friends.
