Donald G. Warner

December 27, 1931 — September 1, 2022

Donald (Don) Gene Warner, one of 10 children of Chris and Lily (Edwards) Warner, was born December 27, 1931 in Humboldt, Nebraska where he grew up and attended Humboldt public school.

On January 5, 1950, Don enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he was later assigned to Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota as a B36 Hustler A&E mechanic. As an in-flight mechanic, Don was able to travel around the world. He was honorably discharged on December 23, 1953.

Don was married to Margaret Hall on November 5, 1955 in Sidney Iowa. The couple made their home in Humboldt for two years then moved to Julian, Nebraska. Although they had no children of their own, they were known as Aunt Margaret and Uncle Don (or as a second “mom” and “dad”). As the years went by, he became Grandpa and Great Grandpa. He would always make every effort to attend the grandkids’ events.

Don spent the majority of his working career at Allied Chemical in LaPlatte, Nebraska. He worked as a machine operator for nearly 37 years before retiring in 1994.

While living in Julian, Don served on the Julian Town Board, and was a member of the town Fire Department. He was also a member of American Legion Post #8 of Nebraska City, and a member of the Nebraska City Eagles FOE #968.

Don would go to Nebraska City daily to pick up a newspaper, donut and coffee in the morning and frequent Apple Barrel for lunch/dinner. He loved fishing and hunting and was a huge Nebraska Husker football fan.

On Thursday, September 1, 2022, Don passed away surrounded by loved ones, having reached the age of 90 years, 8 months and 5 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret, sons Daniel and Bill; siblings Herb, Margaret, Floyd, John, Chris Jr., Doris, Ellis, and a set of twins, girl and boy.

Those left to mourn his passing include his children and their spouses Ardis and Alvin Kaus of Colby, KS., David and Rosanna Koppelmann of Yorktown, VA., Cynthia and Charles Coufal of Millard, Brenda and David Klingforth of Papillion, Roland Koppelmann of Concord, NE, Rita and James Parriott of Murray, Heather Koppelmann of Julian; grandchildren Brian, Amaris, Jordan, Brianna, Kristin, Patric, Tonya, Gina, Ashley, Clark, K., MaKayla, Jacqueline’, James, Danie, Hunter, and Colton, along with 11 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
