Dorothy J. Kaul

Dorothy J. Kaul was born July 24, 1942 to Frank and Betty Svec in Middletown, Connecticut. She was the oldest of two children. She had worked on the family farm helping her father with the daily chores. She had graduated from Nathan Hale-Ray School in Moodus, Connecticut, in 1960.

From a prior union, four daughters were born; Michele, Donna, Pamela, and Cindy. The eldest of these four had made her a mother on Mother’s day that year. She devoted her life to raising her wonderful daughters, she was the greatest mother any child could ask for. In 1980 she met a young sailor, Mark, stationed at a nearby Naval base who had become the love of her life. In that same year she was blessed with her first grandchild, she was most excited about being a grandmother. Her grandchildren were her absolute world. Dorothy and Mark were joined in marriage on February 28, 1981, in St. Edward, Nebraska. While Mark was still enlisted they had lived in Hawaii for a brief time. During this time they had also mourned the loss of their granddaughter. After moving back to the mainland, they had settled in Auburn, Nebraska. They had a daughter together, Jennifer. A few years following they purchased a parcel of land in the country which they made their family homestead.

She enjoyed knitting and sewing, in which she loved spending time showing each one of her daughters the skill. She also enjoyed going to flea markets and collecting, many summers were filled with the memories of attending flea markets and yard sales. She also had a wonderful green thumb and loved to garden, whether it was vegetables or flowers. Most importantly to her was her family, she was a homemaker and made sure that the home was full of love and comfort from the generations of her own daughters, to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She peacefully passed on August 12, 2023 surrounded by family at home. She is preceded in death by her parents and her eldest grandchild, Tiffany. She is survived by her husband, Mark Kaul; sister, Eileen (Harry) Wheeler of Alexander, Maine; daughters, Michele (Brian) Bloom and Pamela Brown of East Haddam, Connecticut, Donna Congdon of Plainfield, Connecticut, Cindy (Scott) Whitehead of Auburn, Nebraska, and Jennifer (Jason) Fisher of Cook, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and another great grandchild expected next month.
