Hezekiah M. Hamar

September 22, 2025 — April 5, 2026

Auburn

Our precious son, Hezekiah Matthew Hamar (“Hezi”), passed away unexpectedly after spending six beautiful months bravely fighting in the NICU at Children’s Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. In his short time with us, Hezekiah touched countless hearts with his strength, his gentle spirit, and the deep love he inspired in everyone who met him.

Born on September 22, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska, at Bergan Mercy Hospital, Hezekiah entered the world at 27 weeks and 4 days, weighing just 1 pound, 8 ounces. From the very beginning, he taught his family the true meaning of courage, hope, resilience, and unconditional love. Though his time here was brief, his life was filled with tender moments—soft touches, whispered lullabies, and the constant presence of those who loved him beyond measure.

Hezekiah grew stronger each day, often defying expectations with his progress and determination. Over the course of six months, he reached 21.26 inches in length and a weight of 12 pounds, 15 ounces—milestones that reflected his incredible fight and unwavering spirit.

Throughout his journey at both hospitals, Hezekiah was deeply loved and cared for by many compassionate nurses and caregivers who cherished him as their own. He was affectionately known as “Sweet Boy,” a reflection of the warmth and light he brought to everyone around him.

True to the meaning of his name— “The Lord’s Strength” or “The Lord Strengthens”—Hezekiah showed remarkable courage as he fought against bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), inspiring all who witnessed his journey.

Hezekiah is preceded in death by his siblings, Parker and Skylar, who were lost too soon during pregnancy, and his grandfather, Charles E. Hamar of Crawford, Nebraska.

In addition to his parents Derek and Kayla, Hezekiah is survived by his grandparents Jeff and Joni Domino of Auburn, and Valerie Hamar of Wahoo; uncle and aunts Brandon and Heather Domino of Auburn, Amanda Hamar (fiancé Nick) and Katie Hamar, all of Wahoo; several cousins; and Godparents Chris and Amy Shimmel.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 14, at 4:00 p.m., at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Burial will follow in Sheridan West Cemetery of Auburn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
