James G. Green

March 6, 1923 — August 28, 2012

James George Green, son of John Henry Green and Ella Marie (Meyer) Green, was born March 6, 1923, on the family farm near Johnson, Nebraska. He was baptized into the Lutheran Faith on July 8, 1923, by Rev. Heinecken, Zion Lutheran Church, near Johnson. Jim was confirmed at Martin Luther Lutheran Church by Rev. Wm. Freuhling.

Jim was one of seven children. He lived on a farm near Brock, Nebraska, with his family, and attended Brock Public School, and graduated from Brock High School in May, 1941. Jim went into Service March 4, 1943, and, after training, he went to the European Theater and was a Squad Leader with the 6th Armored Division, 3rd Army, in WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star, among other decorations. He received his honorable discharge on October 31, 1945. He remained in the Army Reserves for 3 years.

James G. Green and Mavis M. Schuette were married August 18, 1946, at Martin Luther Lutheran Church by Rev. Wm. Freuhling. They were members of Martin Luther Church from 1946-1951 and then transferred to St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Johnson.

Jim and Mavis moved to a farm northeast of Brock. They had three children, Larry James, Judy Ann, and Mary Jane. After 19 years living on the farm, they built a house in Brock, moving there in September 1965. They continued farming, and Mavis was very involved in farm work with Jim. Jim and Mavis moved to Auburn, Nebraska in August 1998.

Jim was a Permanent Member of American Legion Bender Reese #330, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Voiture 1572 40/8, and Auburn Eagles. He also served as a member on the St. Matthew Lutheran Church Council, Brock School Board, Brock Firemen, Brock Town Board, and the Nemaha County Avenue of Flags Committee.

Jim?s many interests kept him active until late in life, when illness slowed him. When his health dictated, he became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn in February of 2012. It was there he passed away, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at the age of 89 years, 5 months, and 22 days.
