Severs, Sr.
March 1, 1940 – March 19, 2026
John R. Severs, Sr., a respected community member and dedicated family man, passed away on March 19, 2026, at Good Samaritan Society in Auburn, Nebraska. Born on March 1, 1940, in Peru, Nebraska, John was the son of Gerald and Fern (Morris) Severs.
John's early education began in Peru, and he proudly graduated from Nemaha High School in 1958. Following his education, he served his country with honor in the United States Air Force, stationed in Minot, North Dakota. His commitment to service remained a defining aspect of his character throughout his life.
His professional journey was marked by varied and meaningful contributions to local industries. John commenced his career in water well drilling, working for Dunlap's and subsequently Leise Drilling in Lexington, Nebraska. He later applied his skills at Magnolia Metal in Auburn, Brock Grain in Brock, and Auburn Consolidated Industries. Throughout his career, John was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his craft.
John enjoyed woodworking and wood etching by burning, hobbies that reflected his meticulous nature and creativity. His pride extended into his active involvement with the Disabled American Veterans in Nebraska City, which he cited as one of his proudest accomplishments.
On September 6, 1963, John married Sally Sue Welch at Auburn Christian Church. They shared many years together until her passing. John was also preceded in death by his infant brother Darrel and sisters Bonnie (Don) Wright and Kathy McConnell.
He is survived by his devoted children and their spouses: John, Jr. and Linda Severs of Rochester, Minnesota; Dianette Severs of Omaha, Nebraska; and Vaughn and Kim Severs of Auburn, Nebraska. John was a cherished grandfather to Tristan Severs, Emily (Michael) McCarthy, Natalie Severs (Gregory), Dr. Tori Severs (Joel), Patti Severs, Alex Severs, and Cassie Severs with her significant other Charlie. His legacy also includes great-grandchildren Seraphim, Rhett, Colt, Ryott, and Barrett. He is further survived by his sister Linda Gray and brother Gerald (Cindy) Severs.
A funeral service will be Wednesday, March 25, 2:00 p.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Burial will follow in London Cemetery near Auburn. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 6:00 to 8:00.
Memorials are suggested to Auburn Rescue Squad or Auburn Volunteer Fire Department.
Services are entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
