Margene Kay Catlett was born at Tushla Hospital in Auburn, Nebraska on October 27, 1952. The second of nine children of Lowell and Fern (DeFreece) Catlett, Jeanie attended school at Auburn Public Schools.
Jeanie was married to Larry Adams, and their union was blessed with two children, Kris and Pete. The couple later divorced.
Jeanie worked for thirty years in the meat packing industry. She first was at the MBP Packing House in Rockport, Missouri and then the Cargill Packing House in Schuyler, Nebraska, from which she retired in 2005. She worked for a while at Balloons Plus in Auburn and then at Hearts United for Animals from 2009 to 2019.
As a member of American Legion Auxiliary #23 in Auburn Jeanie was active in the organization and its activities. She was very friendly and well known in the places she lived throughout her life.
Jeanie passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the Wilber Care Center in Wilber, Nebraska at the age of 73 years, 6 months, and 15 days. Her parents Lowell and Fern and sister Julie preceded her in death.
Among those who celebrate her memory and will miss Jeanie’s infectious laugh are her daughter Kris Vogt of Wilber; son Pete Adams of Wilber; grandchildren Zack Vogt, Jenna (Tyler) Gilliam, Dylan Adams, Dakota Adams, Dusty Adams, and Sierra Newburn; great-grandchildren Jade, Ziah, Madison, and Sawyer; siblings Marcia Thomas of Auburn, Deb (Allan) Adams of Auburn, Janette Catlett of Auburn, Cathy Berger of Humboldt, Linda Garcia of Auburn, Mark (Linda) Catlett of Auburn, and Tom (Joanne) Catlett of Lincoln; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 16, 2:00 p.m., at the American Legion Club in Auburn.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
