Obituary

Mary Ann (Rademacher) Johnson entered eternal peace with the Lord on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at her rural Johnson, Nebraska, home. She was 81 years old.

Mary was born on October 28, 1944, in Tecumseh, Nebraska, to Heye and Johanna (Stoehr) Rademacher. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church on November 26, 1944, by Rev. F. K. Kumpf and confirmed there on March 22, 1959. She grew up on the family farm with her brother Robert. Mary attended school in Johnson, graduating as valedictorian of the Class of 1963. She continued her education at Dana College and Peru State College, earning her degree from Dana College in 1967.

In 1968, Mary married Clare Johnson at Zion. While Clare was a minister, the couple lived in various locations in his native Canada, as well as Nebraska. They welcomed six children: Nathan, Joel, Daniel, Maria, Benjamin, and Grace. The family moved back to Mary’s childhood home in 1982. Mary and Clare later divorced. The farm was a place Mary dearly loved, and was where she resided the rest of her life.

Mary worked hard while raising her family. She loved caring for her kids, grandkids, and kids in general. She operated a daycare in her home for many years. Mary also spent much of her time seated at a keyboard, working in the garden, and milking cows in the barn.

She taught piano lessons and faithfully shared her talents by playing the organ and piano for worship services at Zion and the Johnson Methodist Church. She also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School through the years. Mary cared deeply about helping everyone in her life get to know Jesus, especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and is lovingly remembered by her children: Nathan (Annette) Johnson of Johnson, Joel (Ivon) Johnson of Johnson, Daniel Johnson of Johnson, Maria (Kurt) Schlange of Auburn, Benjamin (Darla) Johnson of Gretna, and Grace (Nic) Johnson of Lincoln; grandchildren Tia (Reed) Miller, Erin (Brandon) Doeden, Liz (Ross) Jones, Bailey (Anthony) De Abreu, Karina, Cristina, and Carrie Johnson, Anna, Jeremiah, Jonah, and Luke Schlange, Kaitlyn and Hannah Johnson, and Daisy Johnson; great-grandchildren Layla, Chase, Quinn, Henry, Lucy, Ruby, Jacob, Lindsey, and Lydia; her brother, Rev. Dr. Robert (Darlene) Rademacher of Lincoln; nephews and a niece; and many other relatives and friends.

Though she will be missed, her family rejoices in the promise that she is now at peace in the presence of her Savior.

A funeral for Mary will be Monday, July 20, 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Church near Auburn. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery near Johnson. Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 1:00 to 3:00.
