Ray E. Moyer

Ray Elton Moyer, one of three sons of Joy E. and Beverly Irene (Anderson) Moyer, was born December 29, 1950, in Humboldt, Nebraska.   He grew up and attended school in Tecumseh, Nebraska.

On June 1, 1974, Ray married Roberta Dotson in Tecumseh.   They made their home in Tecumseh until moving to Auburn, Nebraska in 1979, and were blessed with two children, Michelle and Casey.  The couple divorced in 1992.

Ray held various jobs throughout his life, including Campbell’s Soup in Tecumseh and Willet Construction in Beatrice.  While in Auburn he held positions at Indian Cave State Park, Nemaha County Hospital, and Triangle Pacific Cabinets.  The job he worked the longest, however, was with the City of Auburn.

Ray had been a member of the Auburn Eagles Club and the JayCee’s.  He enjoyed horseshows, did some bull riding, played softball, and bowled, even coaching a kid’s league for a while.  Ray was a big Husker football and WWE fan and loved to watch his grandkids in their activities.

As many know, racing cars was a passion for Ray.  He started out as a spectator, often leaving home early to get his seat at the track.  In 1976 Ray began racing himself.  He competed in several classes, including stock and modified, as well as driving in Demo Derbies, Figure 8’s, and Rollover contests.  Tracks included Beatrice, Eagle, I-80, Sunset, and Greenwood.  Ray retired from racing in 2000, but continued his love for the sport, including helping on his son Casey’s team.  Throughout his years on the track, Ray had many wins, but his greatest achievements were the friends he made, the family bonding, and the many memories that remain.

On the night of January 18, 2024, with his family around him, Ray passed away peacefully at his home in Auburn.  He had reached the age of 73 years and 21 days, and was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Harold, and his nephew Joshua Phillip Moyer.

Ray is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Matthew Kaufman of Lincoln; son and daughter-in-law Casey and Alicia Moyer of Auburn; grandchildren Alisha Kite, C.J. Kaufman, Isaiah and Gavin Moyer; brother Ron Moyer of Auburn; niece Destini Kuker; other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 24, 10:30 a.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn.  Burial will be in the Pawnee City Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 5:00 to 7:00.
