Roy Fredrick Gfeller was born in a farmhouse 5 miles east of Humboldt, Nebraska, to Fredrich and Daisy (Kimes) Gfeller on January 16, 1927. After completing 8th grade at Grand Ave. Country School, he attended Humboldt High School. He was Active in Voc Ag and FFA during his high school years.
After graduation, Fred enlisted in the Army Air Corps, serving 27 months, part of that as a tour in the Panama Canal Zone as a clerk typist. On returning to Peru, Nebraska in December of 1946, he started farming. Fred was active in the Peru VFW organization.
On January 8, 1966, Fred married Ruth Hayes. Ruth provided him with a ready-made family that he adored. Complete with great grandchildren before he left this earth. He quit farming in 1967 and went to work for Peru State College in boiler maintenance. He retired in 1995. Ruth passed away on June 17, 2001. Fred remained in Peru until… 2030! (Oh, what a laugh we got about that date! Then he said he would be in Peru after that for a LONG time!)
Fred is preceded by any enemies, because he outlived them all!
A graveside memorial service and burial of ashes will be Wednesday, July 9, 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Vernon Cemetery at Peru.
Memorials are suggested to the Peru Cemetery Association.
